Position Summary
We are looking for an Accountant who can take ownership of key financial processes and help ensure our organization runs on solid financial footing. This position is well suited for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys detailed reconciliation work, monthly close activities, and contributing to a collaborative finance team in a regulated, nonprofit environment. The right person is detail-oriented, steady under deadlines, and understands the nuances of nonprofit finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain account reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, deferred revenue, and other designated accounts.
- Research, analyze, and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to daily/week/monthly activity, payroll, accruals, reallocations, corrections, and monthly adjustments.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist with preparation for annual audits, prepare and provide audit schedules with supporting documentation to auditors.
- Maintain detailed reconciliation workpapers and documentation in accordance with departmental standards.
- Support lease accounting activities, including maintenance of schedules, rollforwards, and monthly amortization and interest entries, as applicable.
- Prepare, submit, and reconcile state contract billings.
- Reconcile grant receivable and deferred revenue.
- Participate in improvements to accounting processes, internal controls, and documentation.
- Collaborate with Finance team members and other departments to support day-to-day accounting operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of general ledger or staff accounting experience
- Strong experience performing account reconciliations and participating in month-end close.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Sage 100, Sage Intacct, or ERP systems
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in social services or healthcare-related nonprofit, government, or public-sector accounting environment preferred.
- Exposure to grant accounting, Medicaid billing, or state contracts (e.g., DDS, DSS, Medicaid) preferred.
- Experience with audits and regulatory reporting compliance.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range:$50,000 - $60,000, depending on experience.
