Are you looking to launch a dynamic career in purchasing, supply chain, and commercial building materials? We are seeking an analytical, detail-oriented, and driven Buyer Apprentice β Forest Products to join our team.
This position is a structured 12-to-36-month rotational development program designed to give you hands-on experience across multiple departments. Under the mentorship of experienced departmental managers and senior specialists, you will master sourcing strategies, market trend analysis, vendor relations, and operational workflows with the ultimate goal of transitioning into a full Buyer role upon successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
RotationalHands-On Training: Train directly across assigned operational departments to build a deep understanding of company functions, product lines, and distribution workflows.
Buyer Expertise Development: Learn and execute core buying functions including market trend analysis, sourcing strategies, business planning, product development, and inventory management systems.
VendorDealer Relations: Build strong, professional relationships with vendors and retail dealers. Promptly respond to inquiries, resolve transaction discrepancies, and support customer utilization goals.
Transaction Management: Compile and maintain accurate records of business transactions, verify order acknowledgments and invoices, track purchase orders, and handle daily vendor/customer communications.
DataMetric Tracking: Analyze purchasing data and market variables using advanced spreadsheet tools to generate actionable metrics, reports, and forecasts.
Position Qualifications
EducationExperience
High school diploma or GED required, combined with one of the following education/experience pathways:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university; OR
Associate's degree with at least 2 years of relevant experience in the building materials industry or a closely related field; OR
An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and related industry experience totaling 4 years.
Core SkillsRequirements
Advanced Microsoft Excel Proficiency: Must have a strong working knowledge of Excel, including creating and modifying formulas, linking workbooks, filtering/sorting, data validation, functions, and creating charts/graphs to track metrics.
AnalyticalMathematical Skills: Demonstrated ability to gather, analyze, and interpret data, including percentages, ratios, margins, discounts, and market variables.
CommunicationProfessionalism: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting ideas, handling complex inquiries, and working with all levels of management, vendors, and clients.
Technical Aptitude: Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and business software applications, with the ability to quickly adapt to new information systems.
LicensingTravel: Valid Driver's License with a clean, insurable driving record. Must be willing to travel as needed.
Physical DemandsWork Environment
Physical Capability: Primarily an office-based role involving extended periods of sitting, operating computers/keyboards, phone calls, and focused screen time. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (up to 15 lbs).
