As the Data Governance Lead, you will be the driving force behind establishing data trust, discoverability, and a common understanding of data assets for our healthcare client, Sunrise Senior Living. This is a strategic, hands-on role where you will lead the design and implementation of their enterprise data governance framework. You will be responsible for setting up the foundational processes, tooling, and organizational structures required to manage data as a critical enterprise asset, ensuring it is accurate, secure, and fit for purpose

Job Requirements

• 7 years of experience in a dedicated Data Governance, Data Strategy, or Data Management role.
• Mandatory experience working within the healthcare, life sciences, or a related regulated industry, with a strong understanding of data privacy and security requirements (e.g., HIPAA).
• Proven track record of designing and implementing data governance frameworks from the ground up, including the establishment of governance councils and stewardship programs.
• Hands-on, expert-level experience with a modern data cataloging tool, with a strong preference for Microsoft Purview. (Experience with Collibra, Alation, or similar is also valuable).
• Demonstrable experience leading workshops, facilitating discussions, and managing senior stakeholders to achieve consensus on data definitions and policies.
• Strong understanding of all core data governance domains, including Data Quality, Metadata Management, Master Data Management, and Data Lineage.
• Previous experience in a senior consulting or advisory capacity.
• Familiarity with the broader Azure data ecosystem (e.g., Azure Synapse, Databricks, Azure Data Factory).
• Knowledge of healthcare-specific data standards (e.g., HL7, FHIR).
• A strategic thinker who can also be hands-on and execute on the details.
• An exceptional communicator and influencer, able to articulate the value of data governance to both technical and business audiences.
• A pragmatic leader who can implement a "fit-for-purpose" governance framework without unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Highly collaborative and adept at building relationships across different functions and levels of an organization.
• Organized, self-directed, and capable of leading a major workstream with autonomy.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Formal data management certification (e.g., DAMA CDMP).
  
  

Job Responsibilities

Governance Framework & Strategy:

• Lead the establishment and operationalisation of a formal Data Governance Council, defining its charter, cadence, and RACI model.
• Develop and implement data governance policies, standards, and processes for critical data domains.
• Design and manage the backlog and intake process for ongoing data governance activities.
  
  

Technical Implementation & Tooling

• Lead the expansion and configuration of the client’s Microsoft Purview instance to serve as the central data catalog and governance hub.
• Implement and automate technical scanning for new and existing data sources to enable data discovery, lineage tracking, and classification.
• Define and implement data quality profiling rules and monitoring for priority data domains within the platform.
  
  

Business Engagement & Stewardship

• Facilitate a series of workshops with business and technical stakeholders to identify critical data elements and establish a data stewardship program.
• Drive the creation and population of a Business Glossary within Purview, working with Data Stewards to capture and formalize at least 50 key business terms and definitions.
• Establish an approval workflow and ownership model for business glossary terms to ensure ongoing accuracy and maintenance.
  
  

Cross-functional Collaboration

• Partner closely with Data Engineering and BI teams to ensure that all new data ingestion and reporting solutions adhere to the established governance framework.
