GIS Tech

Seeking a detail-oriented and skilled GIS Technician to join our team, specializing in utility plans. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and a working knowledge of utility infrastructure. This role involves using GIS software to create, update, and maintain accurate utility maps, ensuring that infrastructure data is properly represented and easily accessible for project planning, asset management, and maintenance activities.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Essential Functions:

• Create, update, and maintain GIS utility maps and plans for a variety of infrastructure systems, including water, sewer, storm water, and electric utilities.
• Import and digitize utility data from various sources into GIS platforms.
• Perform spatial analysis on utility data to support planning, engineering, and maintenance operations.
• Ensure GIS data integrity and accuracy by validating and verifying spatial data and attributes.
• Collaborate with engineers, planners, and other stakeholders to interpret and map utility systems according to project requirements.
• Assist in the creation of utility network models and integration with other mapping systems.
• Produce high-quality printed and digital maps, reports, and charts for internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform regular data backups and data management to ensure the security and accessibility of GIS datasets.
• Assist in the creation and maintenance of GIS data standards and procedures.
• Stay up to date with the latest GIS technologies and tools to improve workflows and output quality.

Additional Information:

• This role may require occasional field visits to verify utility infrastructure and collect data.
• Some overtime or weekend work may be necessary depending on project deadlines or requirements.

• Associate’s degree or GIS Certificate and experience in GIS or computer science; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid driver's license and the ability to maintain in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience working with utility mapping or engineering applications (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, ArcGIS Utility Network).
• Knowledge of utility-specific standards, regulations, and industry best practices is a plus.
• Proficiency in GIS software, particularly ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online.
• Experience with geodatabase management and spatial data analysis.
• Ability to work with utility data formats (e.g., shapefiles, geodatabases, KML, CSV, xlsx).
• Experience in utilizing field data collection tools and methods (e.g., GPS, mobile GIS apps).
• Strong understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and data conversion.
