What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Insurance Broker position at Alliance Risk?
Account Executive
Company: Alliance Risk
Industry: Insurance & Risk Management
Location: In-Office (Chicago, IL)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About Alliance Risk
Alliance Risk works with fast-growing companies facing real, complex risk. Our clients range from venture-backed startups to established operators navigating D&O, E&O, and sophisticated commercial liability exposures. We combine disciplined underwriting with a modern, execution-focused sales approach. We believe strong insurance outcomes are built on sound judgment, trusted relationships, and consistent follow-through. We support that work with better systems, better data, and higher standards. This is not a service-only brokerage role—it’s a growth role for someone who wants real ownership, the opportunity to build a book, and to be rewarded for performance.
The Role
We’re hiring an Account Executive to drive new business and manage client relationships across D&O, E&O, and other commercial lines. You’ll be responsible for sourcing and closing new opportunities, managing renewals, and working closely with underwriting and leadership to structure smart, competitive coverage for high-growth companies.
This role is ideal for someone who understands how to sell complex insurance products, is comfortable speaking with founders, CFOs, and GCs, and wants real responsibility in a scaling firm—not just a seat in a call queue.
What You’ll Do
- Drive New Business: Prospect, pitch, negotiate, and close new accounts across D&O, E&O, and Commercial Liability. You’ll be expected to close business consistently—not occasionally.
- Own the Full Sales Cycle: From first conversation through binding and renewal. No hand-offs, no hiding.
- Build Long-Term Client Relationships: Act as a trusted advisor, not a transactional broker. Retention matters here.
- Manage a Diverse Portfolio: Balance new business production, renewal retention, and underwriting discipline in line with firm strategy.
- Work Closely with Underwriting: Collaborate on risk selection, pricing strategy, and carrier negotiations.
- Use the Tools Properly: Maintain clean, accurate documentation in EPIC. This is mandatory.
- Hit Your Numbers: Daily activity, weekly momentum, monthly production. This is a performance role.
- Improve the Playbook: Share feedback from the field to help improve processes, underwriting decisions, and how we go to market.
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of sales experience, preferably in insurance or complex B2B financial products
- Strong working knowledge of D&O, E&O, and Commercial Liability
Required
- Proven ability to close and retain business in a fast-moving environment
- Comfortable negotiating with sophisticated buyers and carrier partners
- Organized, detail-oriented, and accountable for your work
- Self-starter mindset—you don’t need to be micromanaged, and you don’t want to be
Compensation
- Competitive base salary
- Aggressive commission structure tied to new business, renewals, and retention
- Performance-based bonuses
- Clear path for increased earnings and responsibility as your book grows
Why Alliance Risk
- This is a real seat at the table, not a résumé role
- You’ll work directly with leadership and top-tier underwriting talent
- Clear expectations, clear incentives, and room to grow fast
- A culture that values execution, honesty, and doing the work
- We’re building something durable—not flashy—and rewarding the people who help build it
