Processing Lead

Job Purpose: Oversee operation of Tobacco processing equipment, supervision and training of hourly staff in various departments within our unionized leaf processing facility.

Job Content and Duties:

• Operation of processing equipment in assigned department.
• Train and supervise hourly and seasonal employees in proper work procedures, and document training performed
• Maintain accurate payroll and attendance records on hourly and seasonal employees, and submit weekly report of hours worked by all direct reports to Payroll to meet specified deadlines
• Ensure compliance with all plant rules and regulations, including safety and current bargaining union agreement.
• Conduct preliminary counseling with hourly and seasonal employees and disciplinary action when necessary, following discussion with Supervisor; document and communicate action taken to the Supervisor and to the Plant Human Resources Manager.

• Must have excellent organizational skills and be a self-starter in order to assess priorities of the work area, to organize workload, and to meet deadlines.
• Must have good interpersonal skills for interacting with direct reports and with employees in other departments.
• Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc) desired.

Education and Experience Required:

• Minimum High School diploma, with some college or technical school preferred.
• 2-3 years experience in production/manufacturing industry
• 2-3 years supervisory experience preferred
• Must be able to assume a flexible work schedule, to include overtime and weekends as necessary

Work Environment:

The work environment will consist of constantly standing and working near moving mechanical parts. These positions operate in an uncontrolled climate and warehouse conditions with frequent exposure to tobacco dust.

The noise level in the plant environment is usually moderate.

Personal Protective Equipment (hearing protection and safety glasses) and other PPE may be required for specific tasks.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
