Job Title: Area HR Generalist
Location: North Carolina (Multi-site; frequent travel required)
Reports To: Regional HR Director and CHRO

Position Summary
The Area HR Generalist supports multiple skilled nursing facilities across North Carolina, providing on-site human resources expertise and ensuring consistent HR practices throughout the region. This role requires regular travel to assigned facilities—typically 4 days per week on site and one day remote per week — may require 5 days on site as needed - with flexibility to support any NC location as operational needs arise. The Area HR Generalist partners closely with facility and corporate leadership to foster a positive work environment, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and support all core HR functions.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
On-Site HR Support
Serve as the primary HR resource for multiple nursing home locations; conduct routine site visits (minimum 4 days/week but may require 5 days on-site per week as needed).
Build strong relationships with Administrators, DONs, department leaders, and employees to support HR initiatives and promote engagement.
Employee Relations & Investigations
Conduct timely and thorough workplace investigations, including harassment, discrimination, misconduct, and policy violations.
Provide guidance and coaching to managers on employee relations matters, corrective action, and performance management.
Document all employee relations activities in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
Compliance & Regulatory Responsibilities
Maintain and support OSHA reporting, including OSHA 300 logs and related documentation.
Ensure compliance with federal and North Carolina labor laws, including leave administration, wage and hour, and employment practices.
Assist with internal and external HR audits, including personnel file audits and regulatory readiness.
Workers’ Compensation
Oversee workers’ compensation reporting, claims management, follow-up, and coordination with third-party administrators.
Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and work with leadership on safety improvements.
Training & Coaching
Train and coach facility managers on HR policies, progressive discipline, documentation, interviewing, retention strategies, and leadership practices.
Support new manager onboarding and ongoing HR-related education across assigned sites.
Recruitment & Staffing Support
Assist facility teams with recruiting and interviewing for key roles as needed.
Help implement retention initiatives and staffing management best practices.
HR Operations
Support payroll, timekeeping, and scheduling accuracy; assist with resolving employee payroll issues.
Help maintain accurate and compliant personnel files, licensure tracking, and annual requirements.
Partner with regional HR leadership on special projects, initiatives, and organizational change efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
3 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in healthcare, long-term care, or a multi-site environment.
Strong knowledge of federal and NC employment laws, OSHA regulations, and workers’ compensation processes.
Experience conducting thorough workplace investigations.
Ability to travel frequently throughout North Carolina (company-paid travel).
Excellent interpersonal, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize tasks across multiple facilities.
Proficiency in HRIS, Microsoft Office, and general HR documentation practices.
Work Environment & Travel
This is a field-based role with regular travel to assigned skilled nursing facilities.
Home base may be near primary facilities, but candidate must be able to travel to any NC location as needed.
Reliable transportation required; mileage or travel reimbursement provided per company policy.
