Summary/objective

The Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with financial regulations, and supporting the unique needs of a franchising business model. This role will have certain members of the accounting department reporting to them. The Accounting Manager will also manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.

 Essential functions

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    1. Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
    2. Prepare internal and external reports for management, auditors, and other regulatory bodies.
    3. Provide financial analysis and support for various strategic initiatives.
  • Accounting Operations:
    1. Lead the month-end closing process, including reconciliation of accounts and preparation of journal entries.
    2. Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported.
    3. Coordinate the year-end close & audit activities and preparation of annual financial statements and reports.
    4. Coordinate external audits and act as the primary point of contact for auditors.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:
    1. Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts.
    2. Analyze variances between actual results and budgeted amounts, providing explanations and recommendations.
    3. Work with department heads to ensure accurate financial forecasting and budget adherence.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance:
    1. Maintain and improve the organization’s internal control framework.
    2. Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and company policies.
    3. Support the Controller in implementing and monitoring compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Leadership and Development:
    1. Supervise and mentor staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
    2. Assist in the recruitment, training, and development of the team.
    3. Delegate tasks effectively and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Process Improvement:
    1. Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial reporting, accounting, and internal controls.
    2. Implement new accounting systems or software, as needed, to enhance efficiency.
    3. Collaborate with other departments to streamline financial processes.
  • Special Projects:
    1. Lead or participate in special projects as assigned by management, such as system implementations, financial modeling, or mergers and acquisitions.

Work environment

  • Hybrid work schedule with at least 2 days each week in office

Physical demands

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Standard business hours although some overtime may be required to meet deadlines or manage unexpected issues

Travel required

  • Minimal travel, if any

Required education and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 5 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 

Preferred education and experience

  • Preferred experience in franchising or multi-brand environment
  • CPA preferred
