What are the responsibilities and job description for the Basement Waterproofing Crew Leader / Working Foreman position at Alliance Contracting & Design Inc?
Basement Waterproofing Crew Leader / Working Foreman
Alliance Contracting & Design – Bay City, MI
Full-Time | Year-Round
Alliance Contracting & Design is seeking an experienced Basement Waterproofing Crew Leader / Working Foreman to take responsibility for running residential waterproofing and foundation projects in the field.
This is NOT an entry-level position. We are looking for someone with actual hands-on construction, waterproofing, foundation, concrete, excavation, or closely related experience.
We are not looking for someone simply because they are a hard worker or fast learner. We need someone who already understands how to take a job folder, follow the scope of work, organize a crew, and get a project completed correctly and efficiently.
What You'll Be Responsible For
You will be handed a job folder containing the estimate, scope of work, drawings, customer information, and job instructions. From there, you are expected to help take ownership of getting the job completed.
Responsibilities include:
- Review the job folder and scope of work before starting
- Make sure the crew understands exactly what is being completed
- Verify the correct tools, materials, and equipment are loaded before leaving
- Get the crew to the job site on time and prepared to work
- Meet with the customer and review the work area when necessary
- Set up proper dust and property protection before demolition begins
- Protect floors, stairs, walls, furniture, landscaping, and customer property
- Lay out waterproofing work according to the estimate and instructions
- Work alongside the crew while keeping employees productive
- Keep the project moving efficiently and on schedule
- Monitor workmanship and correct problems before they become callbacks
- Track materials and identify shortages before they stop production
- Take required before, during, and after photos
- Maintain accurate job notes and documentation
- Communicate job-site problems or unexpected conditions immediately
- Identify work that falls outside the original scope
- Properly communicate and document change orders before additional work is performed
- Keep the customer informed of progress
- Make sure tools and equipment are properly used and cared for
- Make sure the waterproofing trailer is cleaned, organized, and restocked
- Complete final cleanup and customer walkthrough
- Verify the entire scope of work has been completed before leaving
- Make sure job documentation, photos, change orders, and closeout information are complete
Experience We're Looking For
Actual field experience is required.
Experience in several of the following is strongly preferred:
- Basement waterproofing
- Interior perimeter drainage/dewatering systems
- Concrete demolition and replacement
- Sump pump and basin installation
- PVC drainage and discharge piping
- Foundation crack repair
- Foundation stabilization
- Steel I-beam installation
- Carbon-fiber reinforcement
- Crawlspace drainage and encapsulation
- Concrete saws, demolition hammers and rotary hammers
- Excavation and exterior drainage
- Skid steer or mini-excavator operation
- Leading a construction crew
You don't necessarily need experience with every system we install. We can train an experienced construction professional on our specific products and procedures.
However, you must already know how to work on a construction site, use construction tools, follow a written scope, lead other employees, protect a customer's property, and complete work efficiently.
What Success Looks Like
When you receive a job folder, we should not have to continually remind you what comes next.
You should be able to:
Read the job.
Understand the scope.
Prepare the crew.
Protect the customer's property.
Get the work started correctly.
Keep the crew productive.
Recognize problems.
Communicate changes.
Document the work.
Finish the job.
Clean up.
Close it out.
A job is not finished simply because the waterproofing system is installed.
The job is finished when the work is correct, the property is clean, the customer has been communicated with, photos and documentation are complete, tools and materials are accounted for, change orders are completed, and the crew is prepared for the next job.
Requirements
- Previous construction field experience required
- Waterproofing/foundation experience strongly preferred
- Previous crew-lead or foreman experience preferred
- Valid Michigan driver's license
- Acceptable driving record
- Ability to safely operate construction tools and equipment
- Ability to read measurements, drawings, estimates, and written job instructions
- Comfortable using a smartphone for photos, job notes, and project-management software
- Reliable attendance and ability to work as part of a crew
- Ability to perform physically demanding construction work

- Waterproofing or foundation work you've performed
- Construction crews you've led
- Equipment you can personally operate
- Concrete/demo experience
- Sump and drainage experience
- Previous employers and length of employment
Please be specific. “Fast learner,” “hard worker,” or “willing to learn” does not substitute for the field experience required for this position.
