This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.

ALLETE is seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Regulatory Compliance Specialist to join our team. This crucial role will be responsible for maintaining a comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance requirements at both state and federal levels. Contribute to the development and implementation of robust regulatory compliance filings, processes and procedures in collaboration with internal stakeholders. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Company's compliance with regulatory standards and fostering proactive internal and external relationships. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regulatory Management:
    • Maintain a broad and up-to-date knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements, with a focus on state and federal regulatory agencies' policies.
    • Provide regulatory expertise during internal project development to ensure compliance considerations are seamlessly integrated.
    • Track and monitor regulatory changes and policies to determine their impact on the Company and identify priority compliance issues.
    • Ensure adequate and timely internal review of regulatory filings and discovery processes.
  • Process Development and Implementation:
    • Facilitate internal coordination among cross-functional teams to provide documentation required for regulatory compliance filings in the electric utility sector.
    • Guide efforts in the development and implementation of regulatory compliance processes and procedures, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Cultivate and maintain internal working relationships to facilitate the effective and informed development of regulatory filings.
    • Develop and leverage external relationships to advance Company positions and ensure regulatory compliance.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • No specific experience required
    • One year of professional experience in government, nonprofit, or corporate settings, or a similar level of experience working with regulations, policies, and compliance is preferred

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Ability to develop and maintain a broad knowledge of the energy industry, power system, and related federal and state policy and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability in building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking to align regulatory compliance with overall business strategies.
  • Proactive, self-driven, with a demonstrated initiative and bias for action.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to process large amounts of information and conduct effective research.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • This position may be subject to an assessment of skills, job match, and/or aptitude.
