    Starting Rate of Pay: The salary range for this position is based on experience, qualifications, and other factors determined by the superintendent.

    Compensation: Competitive salary package, including benefits, paid vacation and holidays, and paid leave time. Specific salary to be determined based on experience and qualifications.

    Job Overview: The Transportation Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the district’s transportation services, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operations. This role demands strong leadership, a commitment to safety, and excellent communication skills to manage teams and interact effectively with all community stakeholders.

    Qualifications:

    • Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Michigan CDL with S and P endorsements.
    • Required certifications: Transportation Supervisor, appropriate Transportation Certification, MSBO/MAPT Certification (preferred).
    • Prior experience in transportation operations with supervisory experience preferred.
    • Educational requirement: High School Diploma required. College degree preferred.
    • Proficiency in computer software including Infinite Campus Student Management System, Secretary of State Website, Google Docs, Transversa (bus routing program), Tyler Tech, and Munis Financial software (training provided).
    • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and customer service skills.
    • High energy, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, work ethic, and the ability to prioritize tasks.
    • Exceptional organizational skills and accuracy.
    • Professional phone manners and customer service orientation.
    • Strong commitment to professional standards and continuous improvement.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Manage and oversee the Transportation Department’s operations, ensuring compliance with Michigan and federal transportation laws and regulations.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.
    • Maintain accurate and comprehensive district transportation records.
    • Analyze data for program evaluation and continuous improvement.
    • Develop and maintain safe and efficient bus routes, and coordinate transportation for co-curricular activities.
    • Address and resolve transportation-related behavioral issues in collaboration with parents and school administrators.
    • Recruit, hire, and train transportation personnel, including drivers and monitors, maintaining appropriate staffing levels.
    • Supervise daily operations of drivers, substitutes, monitors, and other transportation staff.
    • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
    • Develop and conduct ongoing training programs to enhance staff professionalism and compliance.
    • Maintain meticulous records for the Transportation Department, including state and district forms, mileage logs, vehicle maintenance records, inventory, and compliance with drug testing and driver's license verifications.
    • Assess and advocate for equipment and vehicle needs in collaboration with the Bus Mechanic.

    Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal or other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

    Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

    Travel Requirements: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust/focus.
    • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is loud to moderate.
    • Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile, and negotiate.
