What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prn Hospice and compounding Pharmacist position at Allen Pharmacy & Wellness?
As a pharmacist you will be responsible for preparing and administering appropriate pharmaceuticals to patients. You will achieve this either by executing a physician’s order or by addressing the patient’s problems and needs. The job entails a high level of responsibility and knowledge. A pharmacist does not merely hand out prescribed medicine; he/she has the expertise and willingness to assist people and provide them with information and solutions. Pharmacists must be able to provide professional advice on pharmaceuticals. The goal is to ensure effective medication use and become the people’s trusted ally against health issues. This position deals a lot with multiple hospices, nurses, patients and couriers. Being able to prioritize the work in a timely, professional manner with order entry, filling, verifying, setting up deliveries while being interrupted with regular customers, vaccine needs are a day to day routine. Candidate must be able to handle stress and volume and be able to navigate with multiple different medical providers. That way you can deliver maximum value to both the pharmacy and society.
Compounding experience required.
Responsibilities
- Review and execute physician’s prescriptions checking their appropriateness and legality
- Organize the pharmacy in an efficient manner to make the identification of products easier and faster
- Maintain full control over delivering, stocking and labeling medicine and other products and monitor their condition to prevent expiring or deterioration
- Listen carefully to customers to interpret their needs and issues and offer information and advice
- Navigate the delivery drivers, couriers, to determine which deliveries will go where and keeping up with it until patient has received it. Troubleshooting issues before they come up by being proactive.
- Prepare medicine when appropriate using correct dosages and material for each individual patient. Compounding skills required. We compound, creams, gels, ointments, troches, capsules, suppositories, etc.
- We provide hospice services so being on call every other week and weekend is a requirement. We are on call 24/7 365 days of the year.
- Must be willing to deliver the meds to the patient themselves when drivers/ couriers are not available in a stat situation.
- Keep records of patient history and of all activities regarding heavy medication
- Keep abreast of advancements in medicine by attending conferences and seminars and collaborating with other healthcare professionals
- Comply with all applicable legal rules, regulations and procedures
Skills
- Proven experience as a pharmacist
- Thorough understanding of dosage administration and measurement, chemical compounds, medical brands etc.
- Outstanding knowledge of MS Office and Pharmacy information systems.
- Good organizing skills.
- Ability to work under pressure efficiently.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills with a customer oriented approach
- Integrity and compassion
- Degree in Pharmacy/Pharmacology
- Valid licence to practice the profession
