Essential Functions
- Legal Research and Analysis : Conduct research on legal issues and provide concise summaries and analysis to support the Legal Department's work. This may include researching federal and state laws, regulations, and case law relevant to the Institute's operations
- Contract Review and Drafting: Assist in reviewing, drafting, and editing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. Ensure compliance with legal requirements and internal policies
- Policy and Compliance : Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance across the organization. This may involve reviewing and updating existing policies and providing recommendations for improvement
- Intellectual Property Support : Assist with intellectual property matters, including technology transfer, patent and trademark research, licensing, prosecution, and enforcement
- Legal Documentation and Record-keeping : Assist in maintaining legal files, documentation, and databases. Ensure accurate and organized record-keeping for easy retrieval of information
- Overall support of Legal Projects: Provide general support to the Legal Department, including assisting with on-going and special projects as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Education And Experience
- Currently enrolled in an accredited law school program located in Seattle
- Strong research and analytical skills
- Familiarity with legal research tools and databases
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to organize and prioritize tasks
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion
- Prior work experience in an in-house counsel or professional environment
- Science background preferred, though not required
- Non-profit experience helpful
- Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to be flexible and adapt to a diverse workload
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Self-starter with the ability to meet or exceed deadlines, prioritize, and multi-task in a fast-paced, changing environment
- This role is currently working onsite June-August and is expected to be working onsite for the majority of working hours. The primary work location for this role is 615 Westlake Ave N., with the flexibility to work remotely on a limited basis
- September-May this role is able to work both remotely and onsite in a hybrid work environment. We are a Washington State employer, and the primary work location for all Allen Institute employees is 615 Westlake Ave N.; any remote work must be performed in Washington State
- This legal internship starts in the summer of 2026 with a commitment to work 40 hours per week during the summer, and an option to extend into the school year at a reduced to 12-19 hours per week during the school year. Flexible working hours can be accommodated to accommodate academic schedules
- $25.00 per hour (non-negotiable)
Salary : $25
