What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-time Preschool Teacher for 26/27 School Year position at Allen Creek Preschool?
The School
Allen Creek Preschool was founded in 1994 on an understanding of healthy child development that is based on psychoanalytic developmental principles. Our mission is to support the healthy growth of children and families in an environment that promotes emotional, intellectual and interpersonal understanding. Our collaborative approach with families, teachers and family consultants seeks to equip children not just for exploration in their early years, but for a life of continued learning.
The Position
Allen Creek seeks teachers who can enhance our work in the school's core values: supporting family relationships, education, and communication and community.
Our approach is based on the best educational, developmental, and psychological research and practice, with the aim of helping children learn and develop in optimal ways. Allen Creek teachers must observe carefully and interact closely with their students, and by so doing gather information about how each child learns best. We foster creativity, independence, individuality, and respect for self and community. We teach effective ways to manage a range of feelings so that children gain emotional strength. We provide structures and experiences that both ground and stretch children, and we value all modes of exploration, discovery, and expression. While children explore their inner and outer worlds, parents learn to understand, facilitate and enjoy their child's development.
Responsibilities and Duties
Teachers at Allen Creek work in teams with small groups of children in a thoughtful, supportive environment. The position is part-time, mornings through early afternoons M-Th, with staff meetings Tuesday and Friday afternoons. We follow an academic calendar, so contracts run from mid-August through mid-June.
Responsibilities include planning and implementing classroom activities which foster children’s development in keeping with the philosophy of the school. Documentation, communicating with parents and caregivers, a commitment to identity work, and collaborating with the rest of the staff in planning, problem-solving and continuing education activities are all integral pieces of the job.
At all levels, Allen Creek Preschool relies on honest, thoughtful communication. This communication requires questioning and listening, a willingness to engage in self-reflection, expressing one's thoughts and feelings, and solving problems together in respectful and responsible ways.
Qualifications and Skills
Preschool teaching experience or a degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred. Allen Creek draws from a variety of curricular and early childhood frameworks. We are heavily inspired by the philosophy of education found in Reggio Emilia, Italy, but also draw from High Scope and developmental psychology. Experience in one or more of these approaches is a plus.
Benefits
Allen Creek provides a very competitive salary, in-house professional development hours, a professional development stipend, paid sick leave/personal days, additional employment opportunities during the year, and an intellectually stimulating and supportive working environment.
