Per Diem: Yes, available for travel.
Compensation: $22.46/hr. to $25.57/hr. - trainee
$25.57/hr. to $28.00/hr. - trainee with CDL A.
Report To: Lead or Supervisor.
Job Overview:
We're currently hiring several Outside Plant Construction Laborers to be responsible for placing conduit and/or cables in trenches, splice conduit sections (install couplers) as directed, place anchors, pedestals, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks. Digs holes and pad ditches and performs other similar work in support of telecommunication construction and maintenance of overhead and underground communications. This is the beginning step in this classification and is expected to progress into all aspects of these duties including but not limited to the Lineman positions.
- Assist in the loading/unloading of equipment, materials and supplies needed for daily work.
- Assist leadership (Foreman and or Supervisor) with all duties.
- Assist lineman as directed, operating a jackhammer, or using pry-bars to break concrete or rocks.
- Hand dig with shovels, picks, digging bars to expose located utilities, access u/g vaults and pedestals, and complete trenches.
- Place conduit and/or cables in trenches, splice conduits sections (install couplers) as directed, place anchors, pedestal, vaults, etc. to complete construction tasks.
- Fully restore worksite at completion of work, refill trenches and holes, tamp soil, replant any plants or shrubs that were disturbed during our construction, place temporary asphalt on streets where excavations have been performed.
- When required and if appropriately licensed and authorized, drive or operate construction equipment used on the jobsite to complete daily work assignments.
- Clean and maintain all company vehicles and equipment assigned for use.
- Safely direct and manage traffic at job sites in accordance with local Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with team members to coordinate work and maintain project timelines.
- Adhere to all OSHA safety standards and company safety procedures at all times.
- Perform additional tasks and duties as assigned by the supervisor or project lead.
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Current CDL A certification is preferred.
- Previous related work experience of outside plant (OSP) construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, including recent graduates from Lineman School with work experience.
- Must be able to operate tamps, jackhammers, core drills, concrete saws, and other miscellaneous equipment safely.
- Knowledge and understanding of reading drawings and ability to follow specifications.
- Capable of performing physically demanding labor, including walking on uneven terrain, working in confined spaces, and extended manual tasks.
- Physically fit to perform heavy lifting and labor-intensive work in a safe and efficient manner.
- Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Willingness to work overtime on weekdays and weekends and travel to various job sites as required.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Must be able to work in conditions, such as exposure to dust, fluctuating temperatures, and periodic high noise levels.
- Adherence to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Must be able to speak, read, and understand English fluently and clearly to ensure safe communication on the job site.
- Successful candidates will be required to maintain reliable transportation and possess a current valid driver's license with a clean MVR that is required (cannot be provisional).
- Successful candidates will be subject to complete and maintain a successful pre-employment drug and alcohol test, random testing and MVR check will be completed after date of hire.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Successful completion of Motor Vehicles Record (MVR) check, which reviews the candidate's driving history, including any past violations, accidents, or suspensions, to ensure compliance with the Company's policy and legal driving requirements.
- Routinely required to:
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform work on uneven surfaces.
- Ability to sit, stand, stoop, and bend for extended periods.
- Work in confined spaces and remote outdoor locations.
- Work with arms above shoulder level.
- Manual dexterity in hands, fingers, and arms for reaching, climbing, balancing, and using hand/power tools and controls.
- Vision abilities must include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must be capable of safely operating vehicles.
- Regularly able to lift, carry or transport equipment and materials up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to navigate job sites, including moving between varying terrain and locations within the work environment.
- Must possess clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
