Job Summary

Collaborates with the principal in overseeing the school's climate plan to ensure an environment that is conducive to learning.  Under the direction of the Principal and Assistant Principal, works with staff to ensure that the social-emotional needs of students are met.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with leadership on all matters pertaining to the climate of the school, with the goal of creating a positive, welcoming, safe learning environment for all students in accordance with the goals of the Office of Climate and Safety.

  • Coordinates all climate, behavioral and discipline programs and services to ensure that students receive the full complement of prevention and intervention measures prior to disciplinary action being taken.

  • Develops and/or sustains structures and processes for consistent, robust implementation of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).

  • Supports and promotes the infusion of restorative programming and principles throughout Tiers I, II, and III.

  • Develops and/or supports a school wide behavior intervention plan that clearly identifies behaviors as classroom-managed or requiring office referral, and suggested responses.

  • Consistently tracks, monitors and analyzes student discipline data, and uses data to proactively develop systems that support the schools' areas of need.

  • Ensures consistent compliance of the Student Code of Conduct.

  • Liaisons with Climate and Culture Coaches to coordinate targeted supports for the school and particular staff members as needed.

  • Supervises and coaches climate staff, including Climate Liaisons and Climate Support Specialists.

  • Supports and guides school staff in managing students presenting challenging behaviors.

  • Networks with external partners in support of school wide initiatives.

  • Assists with the coordination of interagency collaborations with organizations providing school-based behavioral programs and services at Tier III.

  • Coordinates support to students transitioning back into school from disciplinary placements, including the Reentry Transition Initiative-Welcome Return Assessment Program (RETI-WRAP). 

  • Oversees day-to-day discipline matters as directed by school principals and may include working with students who are sent out of the classroom, contacting parents, and scheduling meetings.
  • Works closely with children who have behavior challenges and their families, and provides ongoing mentorship and direction they need to be successful.
  • Partners with school leadership, counselors and teachers to execute individualized behavior plans when needed.
  • Facilitates professional development and support staff on climate-related topics.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of:

  • Theories and principles of student growth and development.

  • The principles, practices and procedures of school climate systems and implementation.

  • Techniques of supervision and the delegation of responsibility.

  • Current social, educational, and economic issues as they relate to urban families.

 

  • Knowledge of:

  • Evidenced-based school climate strategies.

  • Restorative and/or positive behavioral principles and practices.
  • The development of an effective school climate structure and evaluation of services.

  • Databased decision-making.

 

  • Ability to:

  • Assess, advise, direct and supervise the activities of personnel engaged in the provision of non-instructional services.

  • Operate a personal computer.

  • Express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Effectively supervise the implementation of the Student Code of Conduct.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Qualifications - External
Minimum Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Four years of full-time, paid professional experience working with children with behavioral and/or disciplinary issues in a school.
OR

Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Four years of full-time, paid professional experience working with children with behavioral and/or disciplinary issues in a school.
