Our client, a well-established General Contractor with a strong portfolio of public sector projects, is seeking an experienced Estimator to support ongoing and upcoming work across Northern Illinois.
This role will oversee all estimating and pre-construction activities for public construction projects, ensuring accurate budgeting, competitive bid preparation, and full compliance with municipal and state requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting project planning, coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers, and contributing to successful project delivery from concept through award.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for public sector construction projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and bid documents to develop detailed takeoffs and pricing
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids
- Develop conceptual budgets and pre-construction cost analyses
- Coordinate closely with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors throughout the bidding process
- Maintain up-to-date pricing databases for labor, materials, and equipment
- Ensure compliance with local, municipal, and state construction regulations and bid requirements
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope review meetings
- Assist with value engineering and cost-saving initiatives
- Support successful hand off from estimating to operations teams
Requirements:
- 5 years’ experience in construction estimating
- Experience estimating public sector projects such as schools, municipal buildings, infrastructure, or government facilities preferred
- Strong knowledge of public bidding processes, construction methods, and cost controls
- Experience with estimating software and quantity takeoff programs
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines effectively
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills
- OSHA 30 (preferred)
- Proven ability to deliver accurate and competitive estimates
