What are the responsibilities and job description for the Holiday Project Worker position at Allegheny County Department of Human Services?
The Allegheny County Department of Human Services is looking for individuals to assist with our Holiday Project.
About Holiday Project:
The Department of Human Services (DHS) Holiday Project provides meaningful holiday gifts to children in families receiving DHS services related to child maltreatment and homelessness. Recipients of these gifts range from newborns to young adults. In every case, gifts from the Holiday Project provide an invaluable sense of normalcy for children and youth whose lives are shaped by daily challenges.
The Holiday Project is supported by businesses, organizations, and schools in the local community. Sponsors (individuals and groups) are given the wish list(s) of an individual child, sibling groups or as many children as desired to make shopping easier and more personal. Though it remains anonymous, many people prefer this option since they have the satisfaction of knowing they purchased a “wished-for” gift. Donors are invited to provide either new gifts or monetary donations year-round that replenish the DHS Holiday Project Workshop where volunteers select an ideal gift for each non-sponsored child.
This role would assist Office of Administration and the Facilities Team with management of the Holiday Project Workshop. We need a hard-working, self-starter who can work with us for up to 3 months.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting teams with management of the Holiday Workshop along with other project needs.
- Helping the DHS facilities team load gift packages for deliveries to the CYF regional offices.
- Going to Donor locations to pick up gifts

Interested candidates must:
- Have a valid Driver’s license and car insurance.
- Be able to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Be available to work Monday - Friday during regular business hours
- Be able to work independently.
- Have good communications and project management skills.
Why DHS?
- You can make a big impact here. We stand out as one of the best human services organizations in the country. DHS strives to be the kind of place where a diverse mix of talented people want to come to grow and do their best work.
