What are the responsibilities and job description for the CDL A Truck Driver position at Alleghany Services?
At Alleghany Services, our CDL A Truck Drivers are essential to ensuring equipment arrives safely and on time to job sites. The CDL A Truck Driver's primary responsibility is to operate trucks for transporting heavy equipment to multiple locations, supporting successful project deployment and completion. Lowboy driver experience is heavily preferred, as many loads involve transporting oversized or specialized equipment that requires skill, precision, and safety-focused handling.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and professionally operate a variety of trucks, including semi-tractors with lowboy, dump, or flatbed trailers.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure equipment reliability and safety.
- Load and unload heavy equipment using appropriate methods to prevent damage to roadways and property.
- Secure loads in compliance with FMCSA load securement guidelines and follow permitted routes for oversize loads.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, mileage records, and billing documentation.
- Monitor vehicle gauges and perform minor servicing and maintenance; escalate major issues to a supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, DOT regulations, and dispatch instructions.
- Keep vehicles clean, orderly, and in good working condition.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support field operations.
Additional Duties & Expectations
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Represent the company with professionalism and courtesy at all times.
- Submit hours worked daily through the company's time-tracking mobile app.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and communicate suggestions constructively.
- Uphold all company safety standards to protect yourself, coworkers, and the public.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL required.
- Proven experience operating flatbeds and lowboy trailers.
- Ability and willingness to travel overnight as needed.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills; able to follow direction effectively.
- Physical strength and stamina to operate heavy, power-driven equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
