Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) is seeking a motivated Human Resources Intern who is ready to turn classroom learning into real-world experience.
This paid internship offers hands-on experience in a busy, mission-driven Human Resources department supporting employees who provide behavioral health, developmental disability, and substance use services throughout our community. The intern will work directly with the HR team and gain exposure to multiple areas of the employee lifecycle.
What You'll Do
As an HR Intern, you'll have the opportunity to assist with a variety of Human Resources functions and projects, including:
- Assisting with recruitment activities, including interview coordination and candidate communication
- Supporting new employee onboarding and orientation
- Assisting with employee records, personnel files, and HR documentation
- Supporting training and professional development activities
- Helping prepare HR communications, forms, and employee resources
- Supporting employee engagement and recognition initiatives
- Assisting with HR compliance activities
- Participating in special HR projects and process-improvement initiatives
- Gaining exposure to day-to-day HR operations and the full employee lifecycle
- Handling sensitive employee and organizational information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a student who is:
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Psychology, or a related field
- Interested in gaining practical Human Resources experience
- Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented
- Professional and able to communicate effectively
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office and learning new systems
- Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Willing to take initiative, ask questions, and learn
- Able to demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive employee and organizational information
