BUILDING MAINTENANCE WORKER II
ALLEGANY COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
(Allegany County Detention Center)
SUMMARY
This is semi-skilled work requiring general upkeep of the County-owned Detention Center performing work on electrical, plumbing, and some new construction projects, completing maintenance duties as assigned, and performing cleaning duties as needed. The scheduled work week for an employee in this position is Monday through Friday. On call hours when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years’ experience in construction or a specific trade. Completion of vocational training courses in maintenance related fields is desirable. Possession of a valid Driver’s License and eligibility for coverage under the County’s motor vehicle insurance policy. (A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Driver’s License. Eligibility for coverage under the County’s motor vehicle insurance policy. Must be able to pass the prescribed physical for this position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand the English language at a level sufficient to read operating manuals, repair manuals, instructions on cleaning materials and paint cans; to write simple messages; to understandably communicate; to drive light and medium weight vehicles; to make simple adjustments to building fixtures, and mechanical and heating and air conditioning equipment; to accept direction and follow instructions; to work effectively with others; and use general purpose tools. Overtime may be required. Employee must be willing to work during adverse weather conditions, and supervise temporary and/or summer employees when assigned; must be congenial with a willingness to work with others and learn varied aspects of maintenance repair work. SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a Classified position at Grade 103 with a salary range of $38,264 to $55,480 and a complete County benefits package including health and life insurance, paid leave, and pension.
