Assistant Professor, Business

This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the Business Department. This tenure-track assignment will begin in Fall 2026. 

The instructor will join a robust transfer program that includes the launch of a new 2 2 model: students spend two years completing lower division coursework at Allan Hancock College, then finish two years of upper division classes taught by Cal Poly faculty on our campus, culminating in a bachelor’s degree. The Business Department administers a comprehensive portfolio of certificates and degrees in service of our high school partners and correctional education programs. In addition to the business administration program, the position will include the computer business information systems and computer business office technology programs. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• The instructor will teach a range of Business courses that may include Computer Business Office Technology, and Computer Business Information Systems courses to students with a variety of educational skills, experiences and goals.
• The position may include teaching in the evenings and on weekends.

In addition, the instructor will:

• Participate in program review and curriculum development.
• Review and revise content of course(s) as necessary.
• Maintain five (5) required office hours per week for student consultation.
• Participate in department and college activities.
• Maintain class and examination schedules as well as grade and attendance records according to college regulations. 
• Participate in the college’s shared governance processes and perform related tasks as required.

• Evidence of creating culturally responsible curriculum and instruction. 

Demonstrated ability to: 

• Apply current composition theories and practices in the classroom; including the integration of reading, writing, and critical thinking 
• Use multimedia technology and digital technologies in classroom, hybrid, and online instruction 
• Apply evaluation and assessment methods that lead to student, course, and program improvements 
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships 
• Identify and use learning outcomes and assessment that lead to course and program improvements 

Knowledge of and/or experience in: 

• Teaching strategies that address the needs of students with a variety of learning styles, skills, motivation, and educational goals 
• Collaborating with faculty and campus staff in developing and implementing programs or initiatives designed to help historically underrepresented, first-generation, and marginalized students achieve their educational goals

Master’s in business, business administration, or business education 

OR

Bachelor’s in any of the above 

AND 

Master’s in vocational education 

OR The equivalent as outlined in Board Policy 7211

Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities. 

Start date: August 2026, pending board approval.

The hiring salary range is $66,760 to $97,816 dependent upon education and experience.
