Description
The Gaffer will work closely with the DP to design and execute the lighting for Madame X. Because the film is a period piece, we are looking for someone interested in creating lighting that supports the historical world while remaining cinematic and expressive.
The Project
Madame X is a comedic short film set in Paris in the 1880s and is inspired by the real-life controversy surrounding John Singer Sargent's Portrait of Madame X. More info can be found at: https://www.allyoucaneat.productions/order-up/madame-x.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the DP during pre-production to develop lighting approaches.
- Execute lighting setups during production.
- Supervise the electrical department.
- Position, rig, and adjust lighting equipment safely.
- Work efficiently within the available equipment package.
- Communicate with the DP regarding changes to lighting setups throughout the day.
- Help maintain an organized and safe set.
Ideal Candidate
- Experience lighting narrative film, short film, theatre, or other dramatic work.
- Strong understanding of lighting, exposure, and cinematic image-making.
- Comfortable working with limited resources.
- Collaborative and solutions-oriented.
- Experience with period or naturalistic lighting is a plus.
- A plus if candidate has access to lighting equipment.
Shoot availability: October 3 (in Inwood) & 5 (at the Bartow-Pell Mansion in the Bronx) required.
Pay: $50/day with possibility of increased compensation based on the outcome of our fundraising campaign.
Pay: $50.00 per day
