What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Lab Assistant (Lab Tech) position at All Weather Insulated Panels?

The Lab Tech will be responsible for maintaining chemical inventory, testing incoming chemicals, and preparing chemical blends for production. This position will perform post-production foam sample analysis, and properly dispose of hazardous chemical waste.
Essential Functions:
- Maintenance of in-process inventory of chemical components necessary for production demands.
- This includes: Daily inventory of chemical components/blends.
- Coordinating with the production department to forecast chemical demand.
- Ordering, transferring, and delivering chemicals to the production line.
- Uses a forklift to transfer totes, pallets, or drums to the production line to supply or replenish material.
- Safe handling of hazardous chemical wastes in compliance with environmental guidelines.
- Blending chemicals following the recipe guidelines per the Chemical Engineer.
- Testing of incoming chemicals and blended chemicals for quality, following all relevant SOPs.
- Performs quality control analysis on post-production foam samples.
- Enters/maintains / files test results for future reference.
- Mentors and trains foaming operators on chemical processing procedures and safety.
- Assists production line with chemical-related issues.
- Assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Chemical Engineer in his/her absence, including overseeing the foaming area, pressing for adherence of chemical SOPs, and overseeing preventative maintenance.
- Maintains a clean, professional, and safe work environment.
- Completes training by supervisor.
- Complies with all safety and company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Possess a minimum of a High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Ability in English to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos effectively.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to draw/interpret data and recognize trends.
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, primarily Excel to enter and manipulate data, but also Word and Outlook for communication.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to interact effectively with employees and other individuals.
- Ability to function effectively with moderate to high levels of stress in a demanding and dynamic environment.
- Able to wear prescribed personal protective equipment and appropriate clothing.
- Lift up to 50 pounds.
- Effectively read, write, speak, and communicate in English fluently.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to walk, bend, climb, crouch, lean, reach, and other physical movements as required to effectively and efficiently perform duties.
- Work in conditions typical of a manufacturing environment, including noise, extreme temperatures and humidity, odors, dust, etc.

Effectively use a computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, as well as commonly used and specialty software to complete necessary functions.
Finger dexterity, visual acuity, discernment of sounds, color, and texture. - Must be able to use tools, equipment, machinery, etc.
- Must be reliable and dependable.
- Must have the physical and mental ability to drive a standard forklift successfully. AWIP will certify.
- The ability to travel by automobile, airplane, and other modes of economy-class public transportation is required.
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high-noise environments, chemicals used in the process, and extreme temperatures. The facility is an industrial manufacturing plant.
