What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computer Repair & Personal Technology Support Technician position at All Ways On I.T.?
Are You Great With Computers AND People?
Are you the person everyone calls when their computer stops working? Do you enjoy solving difficult software problems, troubleshooting Windows and Mac computers, and helping people understand their technology?
All Ways On I.T. is looking for an experienced Computer Repair & Personal Technology Support Technician to join our Helena team.
This is an in-shop position focused primarily on software troubleshooting, operating system problems, and personal technology support. Occasionally there may be on-location support in the customer's home. You’ll work alongside an experienced hardware technician who handles most physical repairs and computer builds.
Just as important as your technical skills is your ability to work patiently with people.
Many of our customers are older adults who have limited technical knowledge or find technology frustrating. You’ll need to sit down with them, listen carefully, figure out what they’re trying to accomplish, and help them solve their problems without making them feel rushed or embarrassed.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve Windows and macOS software and operating system problems.
- Troubleshoot startup failures, crashes, performance issues, and software conflicts.
- Install, configure, repair, and reinstall operating systems and applications.
- Remove viruses, malware, and unwanted software.
- Perform data backups, migrations, and recovery when possible.
- Troubleshoot email, printers, internet connectivity, and everyday technology issues.
- Identify hardware problems and coordinate repairs with our hardware technician.
- Work directly with customers to understand their concerns and explain solutions in everyday language.
- Accurately document repairs, diagnostics, and time spent on each job.
- Independently manage multiple repairs while maintaining quality and efficiency.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing computers.
- Strong Windows troubleshooting and software diagnostic skills.
- Working knowledge of macOS and Apple computers.
- Ability to independently identify and resolve technical problems.
- Understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, and data recovery.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills and exceptional patience with people who have limited technical knowledge.
- Willingness to research unfamiliar problems and learn new technologies.
Preferred: Two or more years of professional computer repair or technical support experience.
We care more about what you can actually diagnose and fix than the certifications you hold.
The Right Fit
We’re looking for someone who is technically capable, dependable, resourceful, and genuinely enjoys helping people.
Some of our customers have used computers for decades. Others are struggling with technology they never wanted to learn in the first place.
If you enjoy fixing computers but get frustrated when someone asks the same question three times, this probably isn’t the right job for you.
If you enjoy solving problems, explaining things simply, and helping people feel comfortable with their technology, we’d love to meet you.
