A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ACCOUNTING SUPERVISOR

The Accounting Supervisor oversees accounting operations and drives efficiency within the department through system optimization and process improvement. This position supervises two accounting team members, ensures the accuracy of financial data, maintains compliance with multi-state sales tax regulations, and serves as a support resource to the VP of Finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise and support the Accounting team of two (A/R and A/P Associates), including training, workload management, and performance feedback.
• Serve as backup for both Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions, ensuring continuity during absences or peak workload periods.
• Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and procedures.
• Stay current on ERP system updates, enhancements, and best practices; implement beneficial changes and communicate impacts to the accounting team.
• Collaborate with the VP of Finance to prepare and analyze sales activity and performance reports.
• Manage all company sales tax activities, including:
• Oversight and approval of multi-state sales and use tax returns.
• Monitoring and maintaining customer resale certificates and ensuring they are complete, current and valid.
• Providing updated resale certificates to vendors and maintaining compliance records.
• Coordinate with external vendors, customers, and state agencies as needed to resolve sales tax inquiries.
• Support month-end close activities and other accounting projects as assigned by the VP of Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associates degree in Accounting or related field required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar accounting or supervisory role.
• Hands-on experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance, including return preparation, filing, and exemption certificate management.
• Experience using sales tax software such as Avalara (or comparable system) preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.
• Familiarity with ERP systems and accounting process documentation. Experience with Acumatica software preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE

This full-time position offers schedules working from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm or 8:30 – 4:30 pm. Some work from home flexibility is allowed following 90-day training period.
