Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of treatment procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection control protocols.
- Operate dental equipment such as X-ray machines, 3D scanners, and medical imaging tools while maintaining proper safety standards.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays), ensuring high-quality images for accurate diagnosis.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Open Dental to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
- Support patient care by taking vital signs, medical history updates, and assisting with medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain a sterile environment using aseptic techniques and infection control procedures to ensure patient safety at all times.
- Provide excellent customer service as a dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, confirming patient visits, and managing patient flow smoothly.
- Educate patients on oral health practices and post-treatment care instructions clearly and compassionately.
- Collaborate with the team in four-handed dentistry practices to improve efficiency during procedures.
- Assist with medical coding for billing purposes when necessary and ensure accurate documentation of medical records.
- Support pediatric patients by creating a friendly atmosphere tailored to their needs while handling their specific dental requirements.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Open Dental for managing dental records and documentation.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control standards, and aseptic techniques essential for safe practice.
- Experience operating dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners with attention to safety protocols.
- Familiarity with general dentistry procedures as well as specialized areas like prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Ability to perform chairside assisting efficiently during various treatments while maintaining a positive patient experience.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations related to medical records confidentiality and data security.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients of all ages and supporting the dental team effectively.
- Experience working with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly desirable; familiarity with Epic or other medical documentation platforms is a plus.
- Understanding of medical terminology relevant to dentistry and pediatrics to facilitate accurate record keeping and billing processes.
