Position Summary
The Director of Staff Development (DSD) is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing educational programs to ensure clinical staff maintain competency and compliance with federal, state, and facility requirements. The DSD plays a key role in guiding and leading all CNA's as their direct supervisor, survey readiness, hiring and onboarding, infection control education, and ongoing staff development.
This position requires a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with experience in a skilled nursing facility. You are the direct supervisor over all CNA's in the facility.
Requirements
- Current, active LVN license in the state of California (REQUIRED)
- Minimum 1 year experience in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) (preferred)
- Prior experience in staff development, education, or training (preferred)
- Knowledge of CDPH, CMS, and Title 22 regulations
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Key ResponsibilitiesStaff Education & Training
- Develop and implement orientation programs for all new hires (clinical and non-clinical)
- Conduct and track annual mandatory in-services (e.g., infection control, abuse prevention, fire safety)
- Ensure staff competency in clinical skills, ADLs, and patient care procedures
- Maintain accurate training records and logs for survey compliance
Survey Readiness & Compliance
- Ensure facility is survey-ready at all times through ongoing education and audits
- Provide training related to F-tags, infection control, and regulatory updates
- Assist leadership with plans of correction (POCs) and staff re-education
- Conduct mock surveys, skills validations, and compliance rounding
Infection Control Education
- Collaborate with Infection Preventionist to train staff on:
- PPE use
- Isolation precautions (droplet, contact, airborne)
- Hand hygiene compliance
- Monitor adherence and provide corrective training as needed
Competency & Skills Validation
- Perform skills checks and return demonstrations for nursing staff
- Ensure competency in:
- Medication administration
- Documentation standards
- Equipment use (e.g., lifts, oxygen, feeding tubes)
- Identify performance gaps and implement corrective education
Onboarding & Retention
- Lead new hire orientation and onboarding process
- Support staff engagement through ongoing education and mentorship
- Partner with department heads to identify training needs and improve retention
Pay: $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
