We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Traffic Control Lead to oversee and coordinate traffic management operations at construction sites, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with all relevant regulations. Responsibilities
- Lead traffic control teams to set up, maintain, and dismantle work zone signage, barriers, and flagging operations in accordance with project plans and safety standards.
- Ensure adherence to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and local traffic laws during all traffic management activities.
- Coordinate with construction crews, project managers, and local authorities to facilitate efficient traffic flow around active work zones.
- Operate heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, front loader trucks, and paving machinery as needed for site preparation or support tasks.
- Conduct regular inspections of traffic control devices, signage, and safety equipment to ensure proper functionality and compliance.
- Implement safety protocols for outdoor work environments involving heavy lifting, power tools, welding, utility locating, and manual handling.
- Assist in the training of team members on proper equipment operation, safety procedures, and traffic control best practices.
- Maintain detailed records of daily operations, safety incidents, equipment usage logs, and compliance documentation.
Requirements
- Proven experience operating heavy machinery such as dozers, loaders (including front loaders), backhoes, graders, dump trucks, paving equipment, and Caterpillar machinery.
- Strong knowledge of traffic control for work zones along with familiarity with FMCSA regulations governing commercial truck driving and highway maintenance.
- Hands-on experience with construction site activities including utility locating, welding, power tools use, and heavy lifting in outdoor environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams effectively while maintaining strict safety protocol adherence on active construction projects.
- Mechanical knowledge related to heavy equipment maintenance and troubleshooting is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with diverse teams and local authorities.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as heavy lifting and manual handling over extended periods.
- Valid certifications in traffic control operations or related fields are preferred but not mandatory; willingness to obtain necessary certifications is expected.
- Prior experience working on civil infrastructure or highway maintenance projects will be considered an asset.
