Position Summary
The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals for projects by analyzing specifications, drawings, materials, labor requirements, and other project-related information. This role works closely with project managers, vendors, subcontractors, and clients to develop competitive and profitable bids while ensuring all project requirements are understood and incorporated into the estimate.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare detailed cost estimates.
- Solicit and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Prepare bid packages, proposals, and pricing documents.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs and cost analyses.
- Identify potential project risks and opportunities that may impact pricing.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client meetings as required.
- Assist in contract reviews and project handoff meetings following award.
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to estimating processes and procedures.
Experience
- Estimating experience preferred
Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Must be willing to be trained
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
- Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, or vendor locations.
- Ability to conduct site visits, including walking and climbing stairs when necessary.
