Responsibilities:
Draw blood samples from patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and efficient procedure.
Verify patient demographic data and ensure proper labeling of specimens in the presence of the patient to maintain specimen integrity and compliance with laboratory standards.
Prepare collected specimens for lab testing following established protocols, and record relevant information accurately.
Communicate clearly with patients to explain procedures, address concerns, and foster trust and confidence.
Maintain accurate documentation of all phlebotomy activities, including patient interactions and specimen handling, adhering to confidentiality policies.
Follow all safety, health, and safety procedures, including proper PPE use and infection control practices.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and manage multiple sites or locations as required.
Uphold a professional, respectful, and positive image to patients, colleagues, and the public at all times.
Required Skills:
Minimum of 3 years of proven phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Excellent venipuncture skills with a demonstrated ability to collect quality specimens efficiently and safely.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a high-volume setting.
High attention to detail and accuracy in specimen labeling and recordkeeping.
Proficiency in data entry and familiarity with electronic health records or laboratory information systems.
Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation if required for travel between multiple locations.
Nice to Have Skills:
Medical assistant or paramedic training.
Certification in phlebotomy (CPHT or equivalent) preferred.
Experience working in a patient service center or outpatient clinic environment.
Knowledge of specialized collections such as obstetrics/gynecology (OB-GYN) preferred.
Preferred Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
At least 3 years of professional phlebotomy experience in diverse patient populations, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
Prior experience working in a clinical setting, particularly in outpatient or patient service centers.
Other Requirements:
Certifications required in specific states (California, Nevada, Washington).
Willingness to travel and work flexible hours based on staffing needs.
Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical capability to stand for extended periods and perform venipuncture procedures.
Maintain a professional appearance adhering to dress code and safety standards.
