Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant with integrity, drive, decisiveness, and determination to join our team. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate daily financial records, managing accounts payable and receivable, performing reconciliations, and supporting month-end review and reporting processes.
As our firm continues to expand, we are looking for a candidate who is motivated to grow with us. This role offers long-term potential, including opportunities to take on client management responsibilities and serve as a key resource for our firm with the possibility of managing the firm at some point.
This person must be comfortable with continuous technology changes and adaptation to those changes as AI becomes an integral part of our firm.
This is a remote position based in Tallahassee, Florida. The work environment is generally casual, with professional presentation expected for client visits and virtual meetings. There will be occasions when coming to the owner’s home office is needed. Work hours are generally regular business hours with some flexibility to fit one’s schedule. Our focus is strong emphasis on accuracy and timely completion of responsibilities and serving our clients’ needs rather than exact hours. Initially, this will be 20 – 30 hours a week with the opportunity to increase the hours as business conditions allow.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for law firm clients using QuickBooks Online
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in a timely and accurate manner
- Reconcile bank accounts and credit card statements
- Prepare and issue client invoices, track billable hours, and monitor outstanding balances
- Collaborate with attorneys and administrative staff to address financial inquiries and resolve accounting-related issues
- Conduct occasional visits to local client offices to exchange documents
- Safeguard sensitive financial information and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards
- Stay current with accounting regulations and best practices; identify process improvements
Qualifications
- Demonstrated reliability, adaptability, initiative, honesty, accountability, and a commitment to continuous learning
- Strong communication, teamwork and collaboration skills
- Problem solver that is confident troubleshooting an issue before escalating it.
- Comfortable with technology and navigating cloud-based solutions
- Understand importance of digital security and taking steps to protect the firm and client data
- Prefer: 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience in a law firm or professional services environment
- QuickBooks Online Certification and Microsoft 365 experience is preferred
- Experience with law firm billing and trust accounting is a strong plus
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management and reporting
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team in a remote environment
