Lead Mobile Equipment Mechanic

Department:            Aggregate

Job Title:                  Mobile Equipment Mechanic

Work Schedule:      Day shift, flexible hours. Overtime as required.

Full or Part Time:   Full time only

Reports to:               Operations Manager

Salary:                       $40.00-$50.00

Job Summary:

 The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of heavy mobile equipment (loaders, haul trucks, dozers, excavators, etc.) of the Plant and/or Pits. This role requires hands-on professional experience with a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently,

Roles/Responsibilities:

• Lead a small team of mechanics in scheduling and executing the servicing, sampling, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment.
• Install, maintain, and repair machinery and heavy equipment.
• Have diagnostic and troubleshooting skills in electrical and hydraulic systems, diesel and gasoline engines and drive train components.
• Ability to use all welding equipment, i.e., Arc, Oxy/Act, Air Arc. Preferred.
• Have an appropriate set of mechanical hand tools. ( up to ¾” drive socket set and pneumatic impacts up to ½” drive).
• Be physically able to work with heavy components
• Ability to perform repairs inside and outside during adverse weather.
• Ability to receive instructions and give instructions if necessary.
• Ability to work in the plant or wherever assigned.
• Ability to work with other personnel in a safe and professional manner, while maintaining a positive, professional attitude.
• Must have good safety and attendance record.
• Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal operation of the equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and determine appropriate repair solutions.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals as needed.
• Use hand and power tools to perform repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with other maintenance and operations staff to ensure smooth plant/pit operations.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Document maintenance activities and report any issues to the maintenance supervisor/manager.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required: technical or vocational training in mechanical maintenance is preferred.
• 5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanical repairperson preferably in a cement/gravel or similar heavy industrial environment
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, and welding
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including heavy lifting and working in confined spaces.
• Ability to work overtime as needed.
• Ability to use power tools, welding, cutting, rigging.

Physical Requirements:

• Must stand and walk on level and uneven surfaces, twist, bend, push, pull, crouch, climb stairs, bend and crawl, grasp, drag, lift and carry items weighing forty pounds or less.
• May work above shoulder level with power and/or hand tools weighing fifteen pounds or less in confined spaces.

Work Environment and Conditions:

• The position requires work in the plant, maintenance shop, Blending building and offices.
• The plant areas are not heated or air conditioned.
• Hearing protection is required in all areas outside of the building and offices.
• Must be physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders and of other means of accessing equipment and work areas to perform inspections and/or drop checks.
• Adequate vision and hearing will be required for safe pedestrian movement and inspection of equipment and job stations.
• The job requires good organizational skills and the ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be willing to be on call to provide assistance in resolving production upsets or machine breakdowns.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Relevant certifications:
  • A/C
  • Brake
  • MSHA
  • Welding
  • Dealer specific certifications, preferred (CAT, John Deere, Etc)
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation CDL holder (preferred)
• Repair and implement preventative maintenance.
• Knowledgeability of parts and work required to complete repairs.
• Excellent verbal and communication skills- must be a team player.
