Overview: An Environmental Engineers work will consist of supporting a broad variety of work at the plant, quarries, and terminals, including conducting audits and inspections, collecting environmental data, writing reports, providing training on environmental topics, and all work necessary to maintain compliance at the site. This individual will be encouraged to develop themselves professionally through hands-on work, mentoring, certifications, licensure, and training opportunities.

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  3. Timely and sound decision-making skills.
  4. An understanding of environmental regulations under the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA).
  5. The ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
  6. Experience in manufacturing. 
  7. Use of Microsoft documents, information, data, presentation software (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
  8. Method 9 certification preferred.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Environmental Engineer include but are not limited to:

  1. Supporting the timely completion of environmental tasks.
  2. Writing environmental plan revisions.
  3. Performing plant and quarry inspections.
  4. Conducting recordkeeping for compliance with permit conditions.
  5. Assisting with permitting determinations and permit applications.
  6. Reviewing Data Acquisition System (DAS) data and acting on alarms.
  7. Participating in stack testing coordination and oversight.
  8. Gathering data and preparing environmental reports.
  9. Assisting with regulatory inspections and building a positive working relationship with regulatory agencies.
  10. Developing and providing environmental training.
  11. Monitoring Key Performance Indicators.
  12. Conducting visible emissions observations.
  13. Collecting environmental samples and interpreting and reporting on the results.
  14. This position will also fill-in for the Environmental Manager when needed.

      Education & Experience:

      • A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science or Engineering. Required
      • Familiarity in environmental (in a manufacturing or consulting setting), including permitting and compliance experience in Air, Water, & Waste permits Preferred
      • Experience working in industrial environment preferred

      Physical Requirements: The Environmental Engineer position is safety sensitive. The physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

      • Working 8-12 hours shifts.
      • Working in areas of heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
      • Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing.
      • Lifting 65 lbs regularly.
      • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
