Summary
As a Mental Health Technician (MHT) at our facility, you are the frontline of safety and stabilization. While many roles focus on general support, this position is specifically designed for professionals who excel in high-pressure situations and possess a deep toolkit for de-escalation and crisis intervention. You will ensure that our facility remains a secure, therapeutic sanctuary for individuals navigating acute mental health challenges and substance use recovery.
Shift Availability
- Full time - 12am-8:30am - Sunday-Thursday
- Full time - 3:30pm-12am - Tuesday-Saturday
- Part time - 7:30am-4pm - Saturday & Sunday only
Responsibilities
- Proactive De-escalation: Utilize verbal and non-verbal techniques to diffuse escalating behaviors before they reach a crisis point.
- Crisis Response: Serve as a primary responder for behavioral emergencies, implementing trauma-informed intervention protocols.
- Vigilant Documentation: Maintain precise, clinical records of behavioral antecedents, interventions used, and client responses to ensure continuity of care.
- Environmental Safety: Conduct rigorous facility walkthroughs and room checks with a keen eye for potential safety risks or contraband.
- Clinical Collaboration: Work as the "eyes and ears" for the clinical team, reporting subtle shifts in client mood or stability to adjust treatment plans in real-time.
- Operational Support: Facilitate admissions, discharges, and drug/alcohol screenings with a focus on maintaining a calm, structured environment.
Competencies
- Emotional Regulation: Maintain a calm, objective, and "low-arousal" presence during intense verbal or physical outbursts.
- Trauma-Informed Boundaries: Balance radical empathy with firm professional boundaries to ensure a safe therapeutic container.
- Conflict Resolution: Effectively manage group dynamics and peer-to-peer conflicts using mediation and programmatic sanctions when necessary.
- Critical Thinking: Make rapid, sound decisions during crises, prioritizing the physical and psychological safety of all clients and staff.
- Empowerment-Based Support: Encourage clients to utilize coping skills and peer support systems rather than relying solely on external authority.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, required. Bachelor’s in Psychology or Social Work, preferred.
- Background: Must pass mandatory pre-employment screenings, including background checks and health screenings.
- Driving Record: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for at least 5 years.
