Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Locator / Operator to join our dynamic construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for operating specialized equipment to accurately locate underground utilities and execute directional drilling projects efficiently and safely. Your expertise will help ensure the successful installation of underground infrastructure while maintaining high safety standards and adhering to project timelines. Duties
- Operate horizontal directional drilling equipment with precision to guide underground installations according to project specifications
- Use advanced locating tools and techniques to identify and mark underground utilities, preventing damage during drilling operations
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, and tankers to ensure optimal performance
- Assist with the setup and teardown of construction sites, including site preparation and equipment positioning
- Follow safety protocols diligently, including wearing appropriate PPE and conducting safety checks before operations begin
- Collaborate with team members to coordinate project tasks, troubleshoot issues on-site, and adapt plans as needed for efficiency
- Maintain detailed records of daily activities, equipment usage, safety incidents, and project progress for reporting purposes
- Must be able to lead crew
- Must be me able to turn in daily paperwork and keep track of job logs
- Must be able to travel out of state !!
Skills
- Strong mechanical knowledge of heavy construction equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, water trucks, dump trucks, tankers, and paving machinery
- Experience operating horizontal directional drilling systems and underground utility locating devices with accuracy
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with experience in operating various heavy vehicles including dump trucks and water trucks
- Construction site experience with familiarity in excavation practices and underground utility installation
- Ability to operate Caterpillar machinery or similar heavy equipment confidently and safely
- Knowledge of construction safety standards and procedures related to heavy equipment operation and underground utility work
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and ensuring safety compliance
