Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, self-motivated Part-Time Patent Clerk to assist with the preparation and submission of non-provisional utility patent applications. This role is ideal for experienced paralegals, law students, or technical writers with patent experience seeking flexible, project-based work and supplemental income.
Candidates should be capable of working independently, meeting weekly deliverables, and supporting multiple invention files in development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, organize, and format non-provisional utility patent applications based on provisional filings
- Conduct basic patent prior art searches to support drafting
- Coordinate preparation of claims, specifications, figures, and abstracts
- Ensure all documentation is USPTO-compliant, including formal drawings and IDS forms
- Maintain version tracking and deliver weekly progress reports
- Collaborate with inventors and legal advisors to refine filings
- Track deadlines and filing dates for each assigned project
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience with USPTO filings (minimum 2 years preferred)
- Strong technical writing and document formatting skills
- Familiarity with electronic filing systems (e.g., USPTO EFS-Web, Patent Center)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and PDF editing tools
- Ability to understand and translate complex invention concepts into clear, formal language
- Excellent attention to detail and task management
Preferred Qualifications:
- Former experience as a paralegal, patent assistant, or clerk at a law firm or in-house IP department
- Basic understanding of WIPO/PCT filings (a plus, not required)
Schedule & Reporting:
- Part-time, flexible hours based on project needs
- Must report weekly via email or virtual call with deliverables
- Expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously on a rolling basis
Compensation:
- Up to $2,500/month based on deliverables and experience
- Performance-based extensions or increases may be available
