Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with clinical procedures, including animal restraint, catheterization, and laboratory testing.
- Perform animal husbandry duties such as feeding, bathing, grooming, and maintaining cleanliness of kennels and treatment areas.
- Support dental procedures by understanding dental terminology and assisting with pet dental care.
- Operate diagnostic equipment including X-ray machines, ensuring proper aseptic technique and safety protocols.
- Handle animals confidently using proper restraint techniques, ensuring safety for both pets and staff.
- Maintain accurate medical records, update patient charts, and document treatments using veterinary terminology.
- Contribute to critical care situations by monitoring vital signs and assisting in emergency procedures.
- Support pet owners through education on pet care, behavior training, and post-operative instructions.
- Manage laboratory samples and perform basic tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Assist with equine or other large animal procedures when applicable, utilizing specialized knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology.
Experience
- Prior kennel experience or animal handling background is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated veterinary technician experience with knowledge of veterinary terminology and critical care procedures.
- Familiarity with laboratory techniques, X-ray operation, and aseptic techniques is preferred.
- Experience working with dogs in training or grooming environments is a plus.
- Knowledge of dental terminology and pet grooming techniques enhances your ability to support comprehensive pet care.
- Ability to handle diverse animals confidently including dogs, cats, horses (equine experience optional), and other small animals.
