Duties
- Develop and implement diverse activity programs that cater to residents’ interests, abilities, and health conditions, including Alzheimer's and dementia care.
- Lead engaging recreational activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, games, outings, and special events to promote social interaction and cognitive engagement.
- Assist residents with daily activities (Activities of Daily Living - ADLs) such as mobility, dressing, and personal hygiene during activities when needed.
- Coordinate schedules for individual and group activities to ensure a balanced calendar that maximizes participation and enjoyment.
- Collaborate with caregiving staff, social workers, and family members to assess residents’ needs and preferences for personalized activity planning.
- Manage activity supplies, equipment, and documentation to ensure smooth operation of programs while maintaining safety standards.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents, especially those with memory impairments or disabilities, fostering a warm and inclusive environment.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in event planning or recreational therapy within assisted living, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities.
- Knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia care, memory care strategies, and senior care best practices.
- Prior experience working with individuals with disabilities or in home & community care settings is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to connect effectively with residents of all backgrounds and cognitive levels.
- Ability to assist residents with ADLs during activities while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Excellent schedule management skills to coordinate multiple activities seamlessly throughout the day.
- Background in social work or aging issues counseling is a plus; certification in recreational therapy or related fields is advantageous.
