Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated 1st Class Shipfitter to join our dynamic team. $35 hourly and $846 weekly in per diem for those who qualify. In this role, you will be responsible for the fabrication, assembly, installation, and maintenance of ship structures and components, ensuring all work meets rigorous safety and quality standards. Your expertise will contribute to the construction and repair of vessels, utilizing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and sheet metal skills. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex projects in a fast-paced environment where precision and craftsmanship are paramount.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and blueprints to accurately fabricate and assemble ship components.
- Perform heavy lifting and rigging operations to move large structural parts safely and efficiently.
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, calipers, and precision measuring instruments to execute precise modifications and repairs.
- Conduct maintenance on vessels, including sheet metal fabrication, welding, soldering, and mechanical adjustments.
- Apply electrical experience to troubleshoot wiring systems using ohmmeters and other diagnostic tools.
- Collaborate with team members on assembly tasks, ensuring all parts fit correctly according to specifications.
- Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, quality standards, and project timelines while maintaining a focus on customer service excellence.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a shipfitter or service technician with a strong background in mechanical assembly and fabrication.
- Knowledge of schematics, technical drawings, and electrical systems relevant to marine or heavy equipment environments.
- Military experience or background in heavy industry is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding techniques (including welding certifications), and sheet metal work.
- Mechanical knowledge related to vehicle maintenance or heavy machinery is advantageous.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently in demanding environments.
- Experience with rigging operations for lifting large structural components.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively across teams and clients.
- Familiarity with soldering techniques, calipers, heavy-duty fabrication processes, and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to interpret technical schematics accurately and troubleshoot electrical issues using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters.
