HPTLC Lab Technician
Description
Alkemist Labs is a 3rd party testing laboratory for the Natural Products industry.The HPTLC Lab Technician for Alkemist Labs, is responsible for a variety of critical duties to support the lab operations and testing for the Botanical Identity and Sample Receiving team.
The HPTLC Lab Tech identifies, analyzes, and suggests corrective actions to optimize laboratory operations, technology, and equipment; maintains good housekeeping, glassware and supplies, and handles sample inventory. This position will assist HPTLC team with sample prep and other routine testing needs, while maintaining high quality standards, and stay in compliance with good housekeeping practices, GMPs, and regulatory compliance procedures. In addition to routine responsibilities, research and special projects will be assigned as relevant to department & company needs. A good candidate will have experience working with botanical materials and/or an interest in botanicals. We prefer candidates with HPTLC experience.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Maintains good housekeeping practices to support HPTLC lab, including:
- a. Organizing reference standards and reference samples
- b. Cleaning Glassware/ Lab maintenance.
- c. Maintains and files testing samples.
- d. Executes and organizes departmental purchasing of consumables and chemicals.
- 2. Routine identity testing on botanical raw material and finished products by HPTLC
- a. Prepares sample extracts to support identity testing.
- b. Prepares solutions and mobile phases to support identity testing.
- c. Executes and performs botanical test methods.
- d. Operates CAMAG equipment for testing purposes and performs routine maintenance on equipment.
- 3. Executes assigned projects and activities in compliance with SOPs, GLP, cGMP, and FDA & DEA regulations and guidelines.
- 4. Maintains appropriate documentation of records and laboratory notebooks as required by SOPs and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- 5. Other duties & projects as assigned including general laboratory housekeeping & documentation.
Required Skills
- Technical skills - Demonstrated basic chemistry and math skills including the ability to independently execute quantitative calculations & analyze data.
- Ability to consistently and repeatedly prepare volumetric solutions & test solutions.
- Acute attention to detail and competency in checking work to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Must read, write, and speak English at an advanced level.
- Computer skills:
- Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook required
- Microsoft Access preferred
Education/Work Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a chemistry laboratory.
- Demonstrated skills in bench chemistry such as operation of balances, pipettes, pH meter, volumetric transfers, etc. Industry-related experience a plus.
- Degree preferred in chemistry, botany, or biology, but not required
- Experience with FDA Code of Federal Regulations 21 and cGMP guidelines is preferred.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
