What you'll do

Interested in a future that exceeds your expectations? As a Human Resources leader, you will be part of the People Team, leading the Strategic Staffing group for the Americas Region. In this position, you will be responsible for the Strategic Staffing team in support of 1,000 employees. You will drive results in a highly collaborative HR role, working as a trusted advisor with Regional, Industry, and Service Line leaders.

The Strategic Staffing Director – Americas leadership role serves as a strategic thought partner with leadership across all facets of the business. Further, this leader plans, coordinates, and implements the full range of strategic staffing activities that may impact the attraction, retention, and development of consultants, while positively impacting the organization's culture and ensuring it aligns with our mission.

The Strategic Staffing Director – Americas will report to the Chief People Officer working closely with the Head of Operations - Americas. This position's preferred location is in New York, NY, but consideration may be given to our Southfield, MI, Chicago, IL, and Dallas TX offices.

  • Partners with Managing Directors and leadership to deploy consultants with a focus on staffing diverse teams across industries, service lines and regions to best serve our clients, create career growth opportunities for our people and optimize firm revenue.
  • Develops a deep understanding of assigned business functions and contributes to the business as well as the firm culture. Uses data to measure success and drive business decisions: learn, iterate, and improve; analyzes trends and develops proactive actions to further support business objectives.
  • Manages a team of 5 people and provides leadership and development to other Strategic Staffing Leaders and broader people team.
  • Partners with other HR leaders to solve business problems and to execute firm-wide talent initiatives.
  • Acts as an advisor to leaders, defining staffing solutions to address business needs. Delivers short-term solutions while also solving for long-term problems by addressing immediate challenges and underlying causes.
  • Works seamlessly with the Americas leaders and people managers to ensure we are identifying training opportunities for areas of capacity and creatively deploying resources.
  • Establishes partnerships across the People function and other Firm service areas (especially Finance) to deliver valued service to employees, reflecting the business objectives of the Firm.
  • Serves as a 'culture carrier.' Develops trusted relationships and interfaces effectively with internal management and team members, and external networks.
  • Supports and enhances the firms D&I efforts through thoughtful strategic staffing decisions.

What you'll need

  • Ten (10) years of progressive talent management, human resources or related/equivalent leadership experience required, ideally in a professional services firm.
  • Five (5) years' experience leading staffing/resource management teams required.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced Graduate level Degree preferred. SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification a plus.
  • Proven employee relations experience is a must, including experience managing difficult situations and/or investigations.
  • Possesses excellent English written and verbal communication, listening and facilitation skills; proactively-communicates, and modulates communication to audience. Ability to communicate with executive leaders and staff comfortably and effectively.
  • Highly skilled proactive problem solver - track record of identifying issues and offering practical, creative, and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to challenge current norms and drive change in the organization.
  • Demonstrates professional executive presence. Proactive, flexible, and adaptive style.
  • Seasoned business leader with excellent business acumen and strong partnership capabilities. Ability to learn and adapt quickly to changing business needs. Demonstrated ability to influence others and build strong, collaborative relationships and networks.
  • Demonstrated success leading and supporting groups remotely, effectively partnering with leaders and building relationships at a distance.
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, Outlook & related Internet applications.
  • Excellent analytical, prioritizing, problem-solving, project management (from conception to completion), and planning skills. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Manages risk by understanding current legislation, proactively making recommendations, and mitigating issues, enforcing regulations with managers, and coaching others.
  • Willingness to work outside of normal U.S. business hours, and as unique projects/needs arise.
  • Ability to work full time in an office and remote environment; physically able to sit/stand at a computer and work in front of a computer screen for significant portions of the workday.

The city of New York requires AlixPartners to include a salary range for this role. The salary range is specific to individuals applying to work in our New York Office and takes into account a number of factors. The range for this role is between $178,000 - $265,000 with potential eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
