SUMMARY:
Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of providers by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interviews patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, respiration, performs vision screening, and records information on patients’ charts
- Accurately and completely documents all messages, i.e. name, phone number, reason and signature. Accurately and completely documents interactions with patients
- Provides first aid and/or comfort measures for patients who have simple complaints
- Alerts providers to any life threatening complaints and/or abnormal vital signs
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients
- Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment
- Gives injections or treatments, obtains laboratory specimens, and performs routine laboratory tests
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments. Prepares, stocks and cleans exam rooms and lab
- Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Applies principles of aseptic technique and infection control
- Maintains confidentiality of information
- Performs quality control checks
- Assumes interim responsibility for routine office activities in the absence of the Administrative Assistant including, but not limited to, managing the front desk, scheduling of patients and maintenance of records
- Communicates effectively with patients via phone or other electronic means regarding their health care
- Facilitates any continuum of care to specialists
- Participates in morning huddles and pre-visit chart prep, as needed
- Obtains any consultation notes from outside specialists and submits them to medical records for filing/scanning
- Performs other duties as assigned
This position requires compliance with all of Alivio’s written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission standards, all policies and procedures and Corporate Compliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages and supervises staff listed below, including hiring, training, evaluating and managing performance to meet departmental efficiency and performance measures in keeping with the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Personnel Policies and Procedures and prevailing employment laws as appropriate

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Medical Assistant training program certificate or a combination of at least 5 years of Medical Assistant work experience plus RMA/CMA certification
Certification or Licensure:
- Certification preferred
Experience:
- Six months of experience as a medical assistant in an outpatient setting
Special Training:
Demonstrated Competencies:
- Bilingual Spanish/English. Excellent written and verbal skills. Customer service and interpersonal communication skills needed. Organizational skills ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. High degree of community involvement and/or knowledge preferred. Add, subtract, multiply and calculate figures such as amounts, discounts and percentages. Read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Write standard reports
