Caribbean Language & Culture Expert

Alignerr
York, NY Contractor
POSTED ON 4/25/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/24/2026
Caribbean Language & Culture Expert (AI Training)

About The Role

New York is one of the largest Caribbean diaspora hubs in the world — home to millions of Dominicans, Puerto Ricans, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, Haitians, and more. What if your deep knowledge of Caribbean languages, dialects, and culture could directly shape how AI communicates with Caribbean communities — both on the islands and right here in the five boroughs?

We're looking for Caribbean Language & Culture Experts to evaluate and improve AI-generated content — ensuring it captures the authentic voice, rhythm, and cultural nuance that Caribbean people actually recognize as their own. Whether your roots are in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean, the Anglophone islands, or the Francophone and Creole-speaking world, your expertise matters.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No AI background needed — just genuine expertise in Caribbean language and culture, and a sharp eye for what sounds real versus what sounds off.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Review AI-generated content involving Caribbean languages, dialects, and cultural references for accuracy and authenticity
  • Identify mistranslations, unnatural phrasing, cultural misrepresentations, and tone-deaf outputs
  • Evaluate whether AI captures the right register — from formal Caribbean English to informal Creole, Caribbean Spanish, and everything in between
  • Suggest clear, idiomatic, and culturally grounded improvements that reflect how Caribbean people actually speak and write
  • Provide structured, detailed feedback on linguistic accuracy, cultural sensitivity, and overall quality
  • Flag stereotypes, outdated references, or content that misrepresents Caribbean communities
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Native or deeply fluent speaker of one or more Caribbean languages, Creoles, or regional English/Spanish/French varieties
  • Strong cultural knowledge of the Caribbean — traditions, idioms, social norms, humor, and daily life
  • Excellent written communication skills in English
  • Naturally detail-oriented with a consistent, methodical approach
  • Comfortable evaluating written content across a wide variety of topics
  • Passionate about authentic Caribbean representation in technology
  • No prior AI or tech experience required

Nice to Have

  • Fluency in Dominican Spanish, Puerto Rican Spanish, Jamaican Patois, Trinidadian Creole, or other Caribbean varieties including regional expressions and idiomatic usage
  • Experience in translation, localization, editing, linguistics, or cultural consulting
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language evaluation workflows
  • Background in Caribbean studies, anthropology, education, communications, or journalism
  • Knowledge of diaspora communities and how Caribbean language evolves in New York and across the US
  • Academic or professional work involving Creole languages or Caribbean literature

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
  • Help ensure AI actually understands and respects Caribbean voices — not just mainstream English or Spanish
  • Contribute to groundbreaking representation work that few others are doing in the AI space
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
