Position Summary: Documents non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, processes, or results. Identifies defects in solid materials using ultrasonic testing techniques. Interprets or evaluates test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, or procedures. Prepares reports on non-destructive testing (NDT) results. Selects, calibrates, or operates equipment used in the non-destructive testing (NDT) of products or materials. Conducts liquid penetrant tests to locate surface cracks by coating objects with fluorescent dyes, cleaning excess penetrant, and applying developer. Maps the presence of imperfections within objects using sonic measurements. Interprets the results of all methods of non-destructive testing (NDT) such as acoustic emission, electromagnetic, leak, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, neutron radiographic, radiographic, thermal or infrared, ultrasonic, vibration analysis, and visual testing. Examines structures or vehicles such as aircraft, trucks, nuclear reactors, bridges, dams, and pipelines using non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques. Produces images of objects on film using radiographic techniques. Makes radiographic images to detect flaws in objects while leaving objects intact. Visually examines materials, structures, or components using tools and equipment such as endoscopes, closed circuit television systems, and fiber optics for signs of corrosion, metal fatigue, cracks, or other flaws. Develops or uses new non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as acoustic emission testing, leak testing, and thermal or infrared testing. Identifies defects in concrete or other building materials using thermal or infrared testing. Evaluates material properties using radio astronomy, voltage and amperage measurement, or rheumatic flow measurement. May provide guidance to trainees or more junior staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Calibrate the non-destructive testing system daily

Perform Liquid Dye Penetrant Inspection (Type 1, Method A)

Interpret and evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and procedures

Pass the annual Visual Acuity Exam: Near vision at least 20/25 (natural or corrected), color perception normal (not color blind)

Ability to pass annual proficiency/certification testing per NAS 410 Level II

Must be assigned as the NDT Inspector working in the area full time.

Must be able to provide training to new NDT Candidates and assist with them in achieving their required training hours.

Must be certified to NAS410 Level II for a minimum of 18 Months.

Qualifications:

Experience and Education:
-
1-2 years of relevant experience
-
High school degree or equivalent, plus specialized training

Technical Skills:
-
Understanding of ASTM E 1417 and NAS 410
-
Ability to calibrate system using light meters, calibration panels and gauges

Ability to inspect for indications and evaluate discontinuities
-
Excellent attention to detail
-
Working knowledge of customer specifications and requirements

Basic computer skills
-
Problem solving abilities
-
Ability to use calipers, micrometers, etc.

Mastery of basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions)

Strong teamwork and communication skills to get along with co-workers and be a team player

Understand and obey safety requirements

Commitment to keep work area clean and free of debris

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50lbs

Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
