  • Position Standards:
      • Master’s Degree in nursing or enrollment in program within 1 year of hire. Bachelor’s Degree in nursing with 5 years clinical experience, leadership and education experience with previous administration or directorial experience. Previous management experience in an emergency department (ED) environment.
      • Experience in an emergency department (ED) environment required with leadership responsibilities preferred.
      • Experience with Process Improvement preferred.
      • Experience managing a staff of 15 or more a must.
      • LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS SKILLS (Tracked at the department level) Licensed Registered Nurse with NH eligibility
      • ACLS required

  • Part Two: Performance Expectations - Director
    • Patient Focus: Places, first and foremost, the quality of the care and safety of the patient/resident first. Does the right thing for the patient and resident. Maintains disciplined attention to quality, cost and access.

    • Knowledge of Profession: Demonstrates comprehensive, current skills and knowledge within area of expertise.

    • Respects Rules/Recognizes Boundaries: When going outside own realm of expertise and responsibility, in the service of improving current rules and processes, seeks other's knowledge and ensures the regulatory well being of APD. Respects established organizations rules and accreditation regulations.

    • Human Resource Management: Maintains responsibility for the hiring, orienting, development, and recognition of departmental staff. Manages the performance of staff in accordance with Human Resource Policies.
      • Define and document expectations for all direct reports.
      • Grow and develop employees
      • Maintain positive and collaborative relationships with members of the medical staff
      • If challenges arise, partner with VP and HR to initiate, implement, and document improvement plan.

    • Financial Stewardship: Plans and adheres to departmental budget. Identifies and takes action on opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
      • On a monthly basis, review organization's volumes and department expense budget.
      • Adjust departmental expenses in proportion to volume variances.
      • If leading a clinical department, ensure accurate and complete charge capture and coding.

    • Policy Management: Maintains, communicates updates, and enforces departmental policies. Keeping at the forefront, regulatory compliance, quality of patient/resident care and evidence based best practice.

    • Confidentiality/Privacy: Follows and ensures staff compliance with APD policies regarding privacy and confidentiality. Remains informed and knowledgeable of HIPAA. Attends all required training.

    • Quality/Performance Improvement: Ensures departmental team participation in quality assurance and performance improvement processes. Responsible for ensuring compliance with CMS conditions of participation and other governing bodies for standards of care, where applicable.
  • Part Three: Performance Expectations - Functional
    • KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
      In collaboration with the CNO and administrative leaders ensures the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of clinical patient care and clinical practice. Works collaboratively to assess current services and patient care needed to define quality and compliance initiatives.
      • Facilitates processes to ensure efficient and effective utilization of services and schedules to yield appropriate productivity. Develops, enforces and clearly articulates departmental and institutional strategic objectives to guide and strengthen the overall performance of the emergency department (ED) and urgent care.
      • Directs and manages all staffing needs, including hiring, performance management, professional development and termination of all emergency department (ED) and urgent care personnel.
      • Coordinates, assesses, and collaborates with recruitment to develop staffing plans based on ED volumes and service line growth. Develops, coordinates, and evaluates the orientation program of the department. Assesses the educational needs of staff, providing staff development and educational opportunities.
      • Directs and coordinates day-to-day operations. Manages payroll for direct reports, along with assisting the department in complex payroll needs.
      • Works with APD leadership to develop and maintain succession planning.
      • Ensures operations are fully compliant with local state and federal regulatory agencies. Ensures accurate and timely data reporting for the management and continuous quality improvement of ED and urgent care services. Uses benchmarking data for analysis and performance improvement initiatives.
      • Partners with leadership on quality initiatives, process improvement events, and patient safety programs to improve the clinical efficiencies and compliance.
      • Builds collaborative relationships with physicians, nurses, administrators and all support staff. Partners with Inventory and Logistics to assess operational needs along with clinical requirements. Assists with managing all product trials and capital requests.
      • Collaborates with ED and urgent care leadership to help develop the departmental plan for operational and fiscal performance. Monitors, adjusts and implements operational changes to achieve short and long term fiscal goals.
      • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
