Alice Deal Middle School, a leading DCPS public school in NW Washington DC is looking to hire a Theatre Director to produce and direct the winter production of William Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ with availability required from the period of beginning of December, 2025 to beginning of March, 2026.

You are a passionate theatre lover and comfortable with directing and producing a creative Shakespeare show of your choosing.
You are agile and can respond to the needs of middle school students while also balancing stakeholder communications and interactions required for a successful show.

Communications that drive action, balancing multiple stakeholder needs, dealing with the unexpected and engaging and holding accountable students with varying skills and needs, and designing and executing a Shakespeare play.
Example of scope includes:
- Create and communicate overall artistic vision for the show
- Hold auditions and Shakespeare workshops/show q&a/audition workshop
- Create a rehearsal schedule and communicate with parent producers/volunteers/cast and crew.
- Schedule rehearsals including ensembles and focus on theatre basics
- Brainstorm set design/props/costumes with volunteer parent producers
- Attend bi-monthly meetings with school principal and parent producers
- Produce and direct all necessary components of show design to success
Time commitment includes Monday- Friday from 3:30-5:30 pm during active school days.Compensation:
- Stipend: $3,000-$4,000 for the duration of the contract; negotiable based on experienceApplication Process:Interested candidates should submit:
