JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides professional expertise in Early Childhood Education and Development, assisting in site monitoring, consultation, training, policy and procedures development and training, agency collaboration, and tracking of Early Childhood Services to coordinate the effective implementation and compliance of Head Start and First Things First Performance Standards and Child Care Licensure regulations. Serve as a resource for teachers, teachers’ assistants, and the Preschool Program Director in meeting the educational and behavioral needs of preschool children.
QUALIFICATIONS: Arizona Elementary Teacher Certificate. Prior experience in Pre-K-3 instruction with a proven track record of instructing and meeting the needs of diverse learners in the core academic content areas. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientifically research-based instruction along with intervention programs to assist staff with effective use of these programs. Possess effective communication, organization, and presentation skills. Provide evidence of fingerprint clearance and obtain a fingerprint clearance card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety within twelve weeks of employment, negative TB clearance within the last twelve (12) months, and current immunizations. Provide evidence of an initial health exam within the last twelve (12) months, CPR/First Aid Certification and Maricopa County Environmental Services Food Handler’s Card are required. All certifications must be maintained in a current status. Ability to kneel, stoop, bend, and sit on the floor to attend to children’s needs. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds when required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Director, Preschool and the Family and Community Partnerships in providing appropriate child development, early childhood education information, behavioral coaching and referrals for staff, parents, and collaborating agencies.
- Assist in collaboration with the Director, Preschool and the Family and Community Partnerships in developing transition plans, monitoring services, and other duties as needed.
- Assist in supporting Alhambra Preschool Program teachers and assistants concerning issues of classroom environments, teaching skills, curriculum support, and transitioning children and their families. This includes, but is not limited to the telephone, email, written reports, recordkeeping, and tracking of data.
- Assist in the development and distribution of written and web-based materials for children, parents, employees, and community partners within the areas of developmentally appropriate practices, child and family literacy, assessment and individualization of curriculum, and learning environments.
- Mentor teachers and instructional assistants to support the implementation of The Creative Curriculum or approved curriculum for three (3), four (4), and five (5) year-old children.
- Mentor instructional assistants to support Teacher monitoring and maintaining all necessary documentation to demonstrate compliance with Head Start and First Things First Performance Standards related to individualization and lesson planning.
- Mentor teachers and assistants to implement and monitor federal, state, and local health and safety procedures, and provide written reports of deficiencies to the Preschool Program Director.
- Train and monitor staff, volunteers, and parents.
- Coordinate the activities of support staff and service providers to support classroom needs.
- Model the development and maintenance of respectful relationships with all families, reviewing their needs and progress.
- Mentor teachers to work cooperatively with support staff in the provision of direct services and the development of goals for children with disabilities and/or behavioral needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
