Position Summary
The Fixed Asset Manager position performs a variety of accounting and asset-lifecycle tasks focused on the organization’s physical and capital assets. They are responsible for maintaining accurate fixed-asset records, managing acquisitions and disposals, overseeing depreciation and capitalization, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
Responsibilities Overview
- Oversee the fixed-asset register: record new asset acquisitions, transfers between locations, disposals, and retirements.
- Ensure accurate calculation and posting of depreciation, amortization (where applicable), impairments, and asset retirements in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Reconcile fixed-asset sub-ledgers to the general ledger on a monthly/quarterly basis.
- Coordinate and lead physical inventory and tagging of fixed assets; monitor condition, location, usage, and life-cycle of assets.
- Collaborate with procurement, operations, IT, and facilities teams to ensure assets are properly tagged, tracked, maintained, and aligned with capital expenditure planning.
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, accounting standards (e.g., GAAP/IFRS as applicable), and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and present fixed-asset reporting to management, including schedules of additions, disposals, accumulated depreciation, and asset-life analyses.
- Develop and implement process improvements, controls and automation around fixed asset management, asset lifecycle tracking, and reporting.
- Support internal and external audit processes related to fixed assets.
- Assist in budgeting and forecasting of capital projects and asset replacement planning.
- Provide training and support to staff regarding fixed asset policy, procedures and system usage.
- Perform other ad-hoc accounting and asset-management tasks and projects as required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in fixed asset accounting or fixed asset management, preferably in a capital-intensive organization.
- Strong knowledge of fixed asset accounting, depreciation, disposals, asset transfers, and reconciliations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with fixed-asset tracking software or ERP systems preferred.
- Excellent organizational abilities, high attention to detail, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate across finance, operations and other teams.
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification such as CPA or CMA is a plus.
