What are the responsibilities and job description for the Precast Engineer position at Alfred Miller Companies?
Essential Functions
1. Structural Design & Analysis: Perform structural design and analysis of prestressed and precast concrete elements, including beams, columns, wall panels, piles, and related systems.
2. Specialty System Design: Design and evaluate specialty concrete systems, including underground utility trenches, electrical/communication duct banks, and deep foundation systems (precast and prestressed piles).
3. Engineering Documentation: Prepare and review engineering calculations, shop drawings, and erection drawings to ensure accuracy and constructability.
4. Coordination: Coordinate with detailers, production teams, and field personnel to ensure alignment between design intent and fabrication/erection.
5. Project Support: Review & respond to RFIs, submittals, and design revisions throughout the project lifecycle.
6. Code Compliance: Ensure all designs comply with applicable codes and standards, including IBC, ACI, and PCI requirements.
7. Value Engineering: Support optimization and value engineering efforts to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness of precast systems.
8. Production & Erection Support: Provide technical support during fabrication and field erection, including troubleshooting design or constructability issues.
9. Project Management Support: Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, & tracking engineering deliverables.
10. Detailing Support & Development: Provide guidance and training to detailing personnel to ensure alignment with engineering design intent; support development of detailing capabilities across the team.
Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills for Success
1. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of prestressed concrete behavior, PCI design standards, load paths, connection design, and erection stability.
2. Structural Systems Understanding: Familiarity with underground and buried structure design, including soil interaction, durability, and applied loading conditions.
3. Software Proficiency: Experience with structural design and analysis tools such as ETABS, Tekla Structural Designer, Eriksson Technologies, or similar platforms.
4. Industry Knowledge: Understanding of precast production processes, erection practices, and lifting design considerations.
5. Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
6. Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with internal teams & external stakeholders.
7. Professional Attributes: High attention to detail, strong problem-solving ability, and focus on constructability and efficiency.
Qualifications
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering required.
2. Experience: Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in precast/prestressed concrete engineering.
3. Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
4. Pre-Employment Requirements: Must successfully complete drug screening, physical testing, and all required onboarding.
Pay: $110,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
